APRA life is the result of over 100 years of endeavour, during which the company evolved to develop increased security, improved service, professionalism, profitability and flexibility. Here is how it all started!
Security
APRA life traces its roots to 1905, when the Caisse Commune du Bâtiment, du Commerce et de l’Industrie (Joint Fund for the Building Trade, Commerce and Industry) was created by employers from the Construction sector and the Port of Antwerp, following enforcement of a new
Belgian Law of Workplace Accidents (1903).
Service
Over the years, the company has thrived and offered complementary services to its members. For example the clinic, which in the beginning only used to attend people injured at work, soon evolved from being notorious in Europe for treating knee accidents, to gaining world recognition. Furthermore, the Fire and Car insurances were added in 1948 to the Civil Responsibility insurances, and in 1967, an interprofessional medical service (APRIM) was born.
Professionalism
The Company realises that, in order to satisfy its needs, professionalism is the only way. This was publicly affirmed in 1961 when the company underwent a name change, thus becoming APRA (Antwerpse Professionele Assuranties).
Profitability
The APRA life company was born in 1988 in order to offer its clients -be they individuals or companies- decease insurances and savings (life) products. Since the beginning, APRA has made constant efforts to ensure some of the best interest rates on the market.
Flexibility
In 2005, APRA life set in motion a European expansion plan under the legal Free Provision of Services regime (Libre Prestation de Services or LPS) applied to insurance policies, while also developing its activity on the Spanish market. In the near future, this development will extend to other EU countries’ markets. In order to better answer its customers’ needs in Belgium, APRA life currently offers two lines of life insurance (decease & savings) products: FLEXILIFE for the individuals and GROUPLIFE for the companies. APRA’s objective is to keep widening its product range, in order to become one of the leaders in its category as
well as a landmark in the European “life” sector.
